The concept of a self-propelled board is nothing new. There are patent publications from more than half a century ago, but there hasn’t been a product that has brought this to reality as another sport. So, what has changed in recent years for this to be feasible?
The great efforts that manufacturers of portable electronic devices began to do in addition to the ones from electric vehicles have considerably boosted the electric energy storage technology. The energy density that nowadays is able to be stored in batteries and the high power that can be delivered clear the path towards applications that up to this point weren’t viable.
The compromise that has been reached in the Watt/Hour per kilogram has unlocked the development of multicopters, e-bikes, electric scooters… and our choice: electric boards.
On the other hand, the choice of an electric system gives us a higher flexibility of design than to gasoline engines. This gives us the possibility of adapting the board configuration to the demands of the new sport in all different styles.
In Aquila we are conscious of the importance of delivering a robust board. With a very simple and accessible maintenance. To obtain this goal, the 100% electric option has played a decisive role.
